Disease Surveillance & Health Schemes
Health certification can add significant value to your stock, especially when selling breeding stock. There are many schemes available which are managed by specialist veterinary laboratories to certify your flock or herd disease status. These schemes generally involve regular blood sampling of your livestock at set intervals. Please contact us or click on one of the links below if you wish to know more.
BVD
Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) is viral disease in cattle that causes immunosuppression and reproductive failure. The disease can reduce fertility, cause abortions and increase general disease such a pneumonia in affected stock. It is a very costly disease and causes unseen production losses.
Gwaredu BVD is a screening programme testing for BVD. Testing happens alongside the farm’s annual TB test and requires just five animals between 9 and 18months old to be blood sampled. Samples are tested for BVD antibodies which gives an indication of whether there is BVD on the farm. If you get a positive result, we would contact you straight away to discuss further testing.
